Voice of the Family has the latest on the Filial Appeal to Pope Francis: A Filial Appeal signed by 790, 190 Catholics, including 201 cardinals, archbishops and bishops, has been submitted today to Pope Francis. The appeal calls on the Holy Father to say “a clarifying word” to dissipate the “widespread confusion arising from the possibility that…
As much as we’d like to catch our breath after last week’s papal media blitz (which we’re still processing), the Synod begins in just five days. It’s impossible to know for certain how things will play out, but with the list of synod appointees who openly defy Church teaching on sexuality, we can count on trouble. We know…
I received an email yesterday evening from Fr. Joshua Caswell of St. John Cantius in Chicago: We thought you would be interested to know that the major relics of St. Maria Goretti are currently touring the United States for the first time. St. John Cantius Church is hosting the relics for 24 hours on October 12.…
The anger one feels at the open and flagrant contempt on display for the Catholic faith from the highest echelons of the Church is perhaps matched only by the astonishing naivete of those members of the faithful who refuse to admit there is a problem. From the tepidity of the Catholic message during the papal visit…
It’s been a long media week already, and a story that is being buried under the papal visit coverage is one that came out yesterday from veteran Vatican-watcher Ed Pentin: Further serious concerns are being raised about Cardinal Godfried Danneels, one of the papal delegates chosen to attend the upcoming Ordinary Synod on the Family, after…

I don’t want to spend a great deal of time on the text of the speech. You can read it for yourself. But there are a few of points I want to highlight and ask questions about. First, I said in my post yesterday morning that the White House address was a missed opportunity to talk…
The following is the prepared text of the speech delivered today. Mr. Vice-President, Mr. Speaker, Honorable Members of Congress, Dear Friends, I am most grateful for your invitation to address this Joint Session of Congress in “the land of the free and the home of the brave”. I would like to think that the reason…
Did you see Pope Francis’s remarks about the protection of the unborn at the White House this morning? Mr. President, I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to foster a culture of life in this great nation. Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me also that this unconscionable taking of innocent human life is…
As the Holy Father’s plane touched down upon American soil today, I was reminded once again of the power of the papacy. It is the Successor to Peter, the Vicar of Christ himself, who has come to our country. What an incredible moment this is for our country, and an incredible opportunity for the Catholic…
“He hath made every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.” –Ecclesiastes 3:11 In the hyper-connected age of social media, many have taken to using the Internet as a pseudo-confessional booth,…
