In an earlier article, we briefly looked at the testimony of the Jewish historian Josephus on Jesus. Today, we will look in more detail at some objections and possible responses. The Antiquities of Josephus are a history of the major events from the Beginning of Creation to the fall of the Temple in Jerusalem. Josephus…
Yesterday, I received an email with a link to the following video in it and nothing else. I’m not going to even set it up – the title says it all. It’s funny, creative, and wholesome. The kind of content I’d love to see more Catholic kids creating: I was curious about the origins of…
On this episode we give the full hour to Jesse Romero, a former police officer turned Catholic evangelist, speaker, and author whose latest book, A Catholic Vote For Trump, seeks to make that case that the incumbent presidential candidate is the only choice in 2020 for Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike. And for just 1…
Due to the explosion of the Tambora volcano in 1815, we had a year without summer, for the atmosphere was filled with sunlight-inhibiting dust. This year we had a year without Easter, another gift from the Far East, but it is impossible to miss that although it began much earlier in China, in the West,…
Let us consider an intriguing dilemma that has occupied the minds of all involved in the Liturgical Movement since its beginning: the novel principle of active participation (participatio actuosa), which Vatican II’s Constitution on the Liturgy promoted as “the aim to be achieved before all else.” It all started with Dom Lambert Beauduin’s accusation that the…
Twenty twenty is the 640th year since the death, on April 29, and the 50th since the proclamation as Doctor of the Church, on October 4, of a woman who played a primary role in the Church of her time: St. Catherine of Siena (1347–1380). How can we fail to be filled with wonder at…

If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken; for we know that as share in our sufferings, you will also share in our…
It’s 2020, and right now, the Catholic Church looks like a giant dumpster fire. For the past seven years, we’ve had a pope who has seemed hell-bent — literally — on undermining or even directly contradicting the truths of the faith. From Amoris Laetitia to Abu Dhabi to the attempt to change the teaching on…
Rule number one is “have no other gods before me.” Again and again throughout Scripture, idol-worship is followed by plague and general devastation. The plagues against the Egyptians are the most famous, but most often God strikes His own people with pestilence and plague as retribution for falling away and worshiping other gods. Old Testament…
Leading up to the Pan-Amazonian Synod — I apologize for bringing that up again — it seemed as though the Church was entering the realm of not just the unreal, but the irreal — that is, the hierarchy in the Catholic Church came across as orientated no longer toward simply ignoring reality, much less adhering…
