As a veteran journalist, pro-life activist, and cancer survivor, Hilary White’s life has taken many interesting turns. Today, she talks about her journey from Canada to England to Rome to Norcia, where she now lives as a Benedictine Oblate in the birthplace of St. Benedict.
Lots of people talk about “The Benedict Option.” Hilary took it literally.

If this is the same Hillary White whose articles I read at the Remnant she very good.
Also writing for Ann Barnhardt’s new website. Thanks for all you efforts, you too Steve
Ann is writing for Hilary White’s new website, thank you very much.
Got It! Thanks! Keep up the excellent work!
Omelette! Really? Not eggs Benedict? Maybe not so extreme! ;-P
Thanks Steve and Hilary. Excellent podcast. Sounds like the ‘Hound of Heaven’ has managed to keep up with her over the years. Let us imagine it as we read the lines:
I fled Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter.
We look forward to her report on this ‘war of the ages’ in the Church.
I’m listening to this in pieces and have not finished the whole podcast, but I felt like putting my fist through the roof of my car when you mentioned that the greatest trick of the masons (at least of the past one hundred years) was to disappear and/or normalize into society. It’s as if talking about them these days is like speaking of unicorns and wood nymphs, as if they never really existed and surely don’t now. I don’t remember the origin of the quote (maybe C.S. Lewis) but I do remember the similar quote from ‘The Usual Suspects’: “The greatest trick of the devil is convincing so many people he doesn’t exist.”
Congratulations, 1P5 Guy. I taught you wouldn’t manage to do anything better than the Ann Barnhardt interviews, but this thing here is awesome! – I went through a vast gamut of emotions, from that of falling (platonicaly, relax) in love with the guest and her lovely voice to the dreadful reconsideration of my vocation of which I was almost getting rid lately, plus the guilt for having blamed the Pope, which she says isn’t the main culprit of all of this… – Alas! By hearing to an innocent podcast I have found a lot more to consider now than I wished…
Keep you Hillary in my rosaries.
Guys this was great. Encore! I am sure Hilary might need another drink by now. Plus maybe Steve can take a few sips of something on the rocks. Encore!
This was a fantastic podcast. There is a real need for a traditional women’s Benedictine monastery. Hilary, if you founded one, I would come check it out.
Where do the monks of Norica stand on Pope Francis and the crisis?
Having only known of her from the WUWTS blog, it’s funny now how she instantly becomes a real person, talking and everything. By the end of the interview, it’s also so apparent that she is such a very admirable person. A lot of depth and no pretension, the real thing.
May God bless you and keep you, Hilary White.
Thank you Hillary for sharing this story. I don’t have a problem with woo-woo factor at any point. I am looking forward to listening to another conversation between the two of you.
