“Truth is Power, Lies are Weakness”

A reader wrote to me earlier this week and said, “Here is a link to a ‘financial’ article that maps very closely to what is going on in our Church.”

I read it, and I found it to be excellent. Here’s an excerpt of the most relevant bits:

Lies, half-truths and cover-ups are all manifestations of fatal weakness.

When we can no longer tell the truth because the truth will bring the whole rotten, fragile status quo down in a heap of broken promises and lies, we’ve reached the perfection of dysfunction.

You know the one essential guideline to “leadership” in a doomed dysfunctional system: when it gets serious, you have to lie. In other words, the status quo’s secular goddess is TINA–there is no alternative to lying, because the truth will bring the whole corrupt structure tumbling down.

This core dynamic of dysfunction is scale-invariant, meaning that hiding the truth is the core dynamic in dysfunctional relationships, households, communities, enterprises, cities, corporations, states, alliances, nations and empires: when the truth cannot be told because it threatens the power structure of the status quo, that status quo is doomed.

Lies, half-truths and cover-ups are all manifestations of fatal weakness. What lies, half-truths and cover-ups communicate is: we can no longer fix our real problems, and rather than let this truth out, we must mask it behind lies and phony reassurances.

Truth is power, lies are weakness. All we get now are lies, statistics designed to mislead and phony reassurances that the status quo is stable and permanent. The truth is powerful because it is the core dynamic of solving problems. Lies, gamed statistics and false reassurances are fatal because they doom any sincere efforts to fix what’s broken before the system reaches the point of no return.

We are already past the point of no return. The expediency of lies has already doomed us.

Honest accounts of hugely successful corporations that implode share one key trait: in every case, managers were pressured to hide the truth from top management, which then hid the truth from investors and clients.

This is the key dynamic in failed oligarchies as well: if telling the truth gets you sent to Siberia (or worse), then nobody with any instinct for self-perservation will tell the truth.

If obscuring the truth saves one’s job, then that’s what people do. That this dooms the organization is secondary to immediate self-preservation.

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

  1. Nail this text on all doors of every Roman Catholic Church…. Would it help or are we indeed beyond the point of no return? Hope not…

  2. Ecclesial interior life in the Bergoglian Captivity.
To be honest, it obviously was in place before now or “now” would not be happening. In any event, get a member of the episcopate to swallow this reality sandwich and I’ll sell you a bridge in Brooklyn. Their bellies just couldn’t tolerate it.
    Brilliant.

  3. “Does it sound familiar?”

Oh yes it does and it has permeated every nook and crevasse of every aspect of life here. Then when you heap on top of all the lies the cruelty and injustices that plague everything we know, well what can one cling to but God and the hope that Jesus comes back post haste (now, if I had a say). I don’t say that for any of God’s creation to be doomed or damned, but when is it going to stop? When is the tar pit that we are stuck in, breathing through reeds going to be emptied?

When children lie, often times it is because they fear the punishment, anger, the loss of love, possible physical abuses. So can we say that on some level the magnitude of lies is still about all that? Of course a lot is about is about being stripped of power, money, prestige, position, but I wonder is there any hope that the lies will not increase exponentially and people could begin to be honest? Perhaps our reactions to the lies should be tempered with gentle mercy even though most would demand their pound of flesh.

It’s all so disheartening to know, really know, that few speak the truth at any one time and when they do often they are eliminated in more ways than one. Are we just all coming to realize what has been going on for centuries because of technology or has mankind just lost all desire for honesty and truth. Some days I wish I could just find a cave and leave it all behind, but that does nothing. I don’t think people understand the burden put on people when they tell lies and are deceitful when so many want to live honestly and with integrity.

  4. This reminds me of something…hmm, eventually I will be able to put my finger on it, but until then I will wait for another Vatican Denial.

  5. This is exactly why I’m so hopeful all the time. By His Holy Name, we’re winning!

We’ve never been closer to total victory than at this moment, today. It feels like we’re a long way from even holding ground, let alone actually making ground. But we are indeed winning. These things we witness in the world today are not acts of a powerful evil having its way with us, organizing the world to its discontent. These actions are the last, desperate throes of evil dying, being destroyed, becoming unmade.

It is all coming down. A drastic change is upon the world, and our Church. I have no idea what the end result will be. But now is not the time to faint away, to hide, to retreat. Now is the time to charge! Push, my brethren, push! Fear no darkness, for the light of Christ shines upon you!

Under this sign, shall we conquer:

  6. In the late 50’s, Thomas Merton wrote that everything you see on TV was a lie.
Incidentally, has anyone noticed that the ads are beginning to hint at beastiality ?

  7. It’s a confusing, terrible time there’s no doubt. But God is good. He has given us Our Lady to guide us with Her messages and as protection under Her mantle. He has forewarned us with His Saints through the ages with their example and prophecies. It’s no coincidence that St Francis’ prophecy is so relative to this pontificate; and it’s no coincidence that the pope took the name Francis. St Francis was called to build up the Church and the pope is mocking that by breaking it down.

Jesus Himself asked if He would find faith on earth on his return.

We knew this was time was coming and we are being prepared for the road ahead. Each person is choosing their side, there’s no fence sitting any more. We must stay faithful to Our Lord and His teachings, despite the opposition which will increase as we go on. Let’s pick up our cross and join Our Lord on His journey with rosaries in hand!

    • Well said. Bergoglio and his cohorts have to go. They lie because they have no fear of God. God’s wrath is ready to pour down on them, evil doers. God is great!
