Today I talk fidelity to vocation and God, Bishop Sheen’s cause for canonization, the disappearing blog post of Msgr. Charles Pope, and the wolves of the Acts of the Apostles.

I’m aware of his statement. I have no doubt that every word is true. I have only a sliver less doubt that he did not come to these conclusions on his own. My guess: feeling the heat of watching Christ’s truths left for dead by yet another prelate of the Church, he preached the Gospel in exactly the way his vocation demands. As a result, pressure was applied, leading him to “further reflection” and removal.
Too many bishops only discipline faithful sons of their dioceses and of the Church. For our part, we should be thankful for their willingness to speak the truth in the face of this injustice. This is, in part, what I spoke of when I said they are torn between fidelity to their vocation in Christ, and to the bishop to whom they owe obedience.
We see the darkness. We need courageous shepherds to lead us through it, not pretend it isn’t there.
I have no disageement with what you say, and think the show of support for Msgr Pope’s original post from many commentators online is fitting. I do have the highest respect for Msgr Pope including for this post quite loyal to his bishop. I think this is the finest in fidelity to the priestly vocation.
