Dear OnePeterFive donors, supporters and readers,
I’m grateful for all of you. Your support made this whole apostolate possible, so that I first discovered OnePeterFive back in 2018 (the “summer of shame”) and started writing here in 2019 (here’s my first article, way back then). In 2021, I took over as editor-in-chief.
Thank You, Lord, and thank you to all of you, donors.
This job has allowed me to do what I love every day and support my wife and four children with a flexible work schedule. Before this, I worked a 9-5 office job and did Catholic writing on the side. So I’ve been personally blessed by you all – both spiritually and materially – because all of you make this online journal possible.
It’s because of your support that we can provide all this content for free to all Catholics. We can pay our writers and cover our costs. But one thing I would love to do is to pay our writers more.
When you compare OnePeterFive to more mainstream online journals – like First Things, for instance – we have a much smaller readership and a much smaller budget. We are a small, non-profit Traditionalist online journal.
We simply can’t afford to pay our writers the going rate for columnists. So our writers choose to take a “pay cut” to write for the traditionalist cause at OnePeterFive. They could go and sell their writing to First Things or some other larger organisation and get more money.
But they are committed to the traditionalist movement, and they write for OnePeterFive. And the only reason I can pay them – and we can offer their writing for free to everyone – is because you support OnePeterFive. But it would be great if we could offer them more money for their work.
Since I took over as editor in 2021, we have been working to solidify our donor base so that our organisation can not only run “on its own two feet” (as we say in the States) but also pay our contributors more money.
In this online environment, it’s unfortunate that even some mainstream Catholics have a strange view of Catholic social teaching regarding economics. They think online goods and services – like online journals – should never cost money. In a sense, we agree – we want to offer our content for free, for the good of souls. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have mouths to feed and bills to pay!
That’s why I’m thankful for all of you – you are traditional Catholics, who know that we are a movement based on resilience and mutual support. We give our prayers and financial sacrifices so that the movement can live on and be passed down to our children. So please help us by commmiting to a monthly donation today. All your donations are tax deductible in the United States.
All donors receive access to our exclusive Telegram community.
Here’s the good news: some of our donors have generously offered to match your donation for Giving Tuesday (which is today, in these United States). This means that if you donate today for our end-of-year fundraising, your donation will be doubled. Please donate today by CLICKING HERE.
