Above: Dietrich von Hildebrand, “Doctor of the Church in the 20th century”
Dear OnePeterFive Confraternity Members, supporters and readers,
As some of you may know, I count myself a disciple of Dietrich and Alice von Hildebrand.
Why do I say “disciple”?
Simply put, they are, in my opinion, the “Doctors of the Church in the Modern Period.”
As I attempt to show in my book City of God vs. City of Man, this Catholic couple of stalwart philosophers refuted every evil of the 20th century, destroying the errors of Russia in almost every aspect across several countries and two continents (including the errors of Russia as incarnated in Nazi Germany and the American Empire). Between the two of them, they witnessed – and fought against – every bloodbath from the “Great War” to the Third Iconoclasm to the ugly revelation of the Third Pornocracy in the 21st century. This, among things, makes them a very important pair in our Trad Godfathers series.
But more personally, their writing has been the one intellectual tradition of our time that has helped me pray and grow in my spiritual life. No other authors of our time have done so much good for me personally. And so that’s why I count myself a “disciple.”
If my recommendation means anything to you, perhaps you might be interested in what the Hildebrand Project just launched, which is a 7 Day Email Course Introduction to the Hildebrands. You can start here for free and see if this Catholic intellectual tradition helps you as it has helped me.
Yours Christ,
Timothy
